bank planting

Judy, When I was new to gardening I thought everything just grew naturally
....without help. so I planted Juniper on my quite steep bank and waited to
see them grow into beautiful big plants and fill in the empty space
between. Well nothing happened. they didn't die, but they didn't grow
either. Then I discovered fertilizer. Wonderful stuff. With the addition of
regular 10-10-10 they flourished. Oh and irrigation also. some water is
imperative.
An additional thought...if you cannot reach the plants on the bank,
succulents thrive on some neglect and may be an alternative. Though they
need an occasional drink also.
