Hi Chris,
What zone are you in? Do you normally get flowers on your variegated
Hydrangea macrophylla ?!? Do you protect it at all?
I ask this because I'm in zone 8. A few other net friends and I have been
having a running debate on their flower hardiness for the past 3 years.
Of all of us, I'm in the warmest zone. I had 2 blooms last year. That was
the *first* year out of 3. They came up from the base of a 3 foot plant.
Wonderful!! I want MORE!!
2 of us in zones 5 and 6 grow them in large pots and overwinter them on
cool porches and get blooms. 2 of us in zones 7 and 8 grow them in the
ground as shrubs and hope and wait patiently...
This year I decided to surround them with sandfence (snowfence for people
who get snow) and fill it with leaves. I WANT BLOOMS dammit!!!
While I would grow these plants just for the wonderful foliage, the
"teasing" is getting old! <VBG>
Will let you know how it goes.
Matt
