Friends,
All the discussion re: "Michigan Bulb" paid off. I received one of their
catalogs in the mail (didn't request one, but one came anyway!) and, feeling
smugly forewarned and forearmed, sat down to examine it at a careful arm's
length.
All I can say is...... it smacked of "Lillian Vernon", or "Harriet Carter",
or one of those other low-budgetish, plastic-item-by-mail catalogs that
float in every few months. Actually, that's probably an insult to them!
The "Michigan Bulb" catalog looked like a cheap operation with its LARGE
PRINT AND EXCLAMATION MARKS!!!!, unnatural techni-glow colors, and PROMISES
of gardens that would spring up overnight OR YOUR MONEY BACK!
Thanks for the warning, guys. Although I seriously doubt I would not have
ordered from this company, just based on the schlocky appearance of their
catalog.
On the flip side, my vote for "Best Catalog of 1999" goes to:
"White Flower Farm, The Garden Book, Spring, 1999."
What a gorgeous thing 'White Flower's' catalog is! (Michigan Bulb, are you
listening??)
