I recently placed an order with High Country Gardens out of New Mexico.
Very nice catalogue. I realize that what thrives for them will not
necessarily be what loves Oregon weather -- probably couldn't be more
opposite in most cases.
I tried to select somethings that tolerate clay soil and ordered a few that
like hot dry conditions since I have a southwestern sloping rock garden in
the front of my house.
I would appreciate anyone's comments on the following plants, since I
ordered by pictures and no personal experience:
Agastache rupestris will probably go out front in the hot, sloped bed.
Certatostigma -- I have read this tolerates dry shade. True?
Veronica spicata, a ground coverish pink speedwell. Says it needs hot and
dry.
Linum flavum (yellow flax). Again requiring hot and dry.
Salvia pitcheri (a beautiful blue salvia). Does this come back well?
MY MAIN CONCERN:
Sphaeralcea species. This got me with the picture. Tall, sort of hollyhock
looking flowers (much smaller though) in peachy orangey shades. Tolerates
clay. Book says its a deep rooted native. Deep rooted is what concerns me.
I know its spready, but the person I ordered from compared its "spreadiness"
to obedient plant (phystogia) and said it comes up as easily as phystogia
when you don't want to where its going.
The last "native" I planted took over the planet (my planet, anyway).
Any comments/suggests will be very appreciated.

For mine is just a little old fashioned garden where the
flowers come together to praise the Lord and teach all
who look upon them to do likewise.
