My helleborus is in similar conditions as to what you discribe. Although
I am much farther north than you are. I have never added lime to the
soil around it. It gets morning sun and afternoon shade. It is growing
and when I looked at it the other day (ground is still frozen!) it had
about 6 buds on it! I am looking forward to its blooming.
