Hi,
It is approaching 90 every day for the last week here in the piedmont of
North Carolina. This is my third year gardening and I have changed things
around alot in my beds. I've moved things and planted at the right and the
wrong times of year and so far have not lost anything. I did move the mum
yesterday morning very early when it was still cool. I got about 6 plants
out of the clump. I cut back by 1/2 the one I put back in the ground.
Spring started in late February here, too. I have buds on salvia,
daisies, coneflower/flowers on verbena, scabiosa and others. Everything
looks lush and this may be my best year yet in the garden. I know what my
favorite plants are now and have tried to develop a complimentary color
scheme in my beds.
My most fun thing this year has been the irises. Last summer I planted
a whole ton of historic and reblooming irises and it has been a surprise
every day to see what the blooms look like. I have had irises blooming for
almost 3 months now non-stop! I have a black one blooming now that is
unique, BEFORE THE STORM. I am already going to have to re-do that bed in
about a month since I planted them too close to start with. But, the
hottest time of the summer is iris planting time, so I should be on schedule
with that project.
Lynn
