My vote is earwigs. My guess is this because the original poster was in
Michigan (am I right about that?), the holes are in the middle of the
leaves, and we have the same problem here. The earwigs are slowly
moving west. 40 years ago I never saw an ear wig here in Wisconsin -
now I see wwwaaayyyyyyyyyy too many of them. I've never found anything
that stops them though - except they get full . . . .
