Try some of the dark foliaged dahlias like Bishop of Llandaff and Japanese
bishop. The foliage is a lot more attractive, and in my beds at least they
seem a little more graceful than the thick stalked lumps that most dahlias
are. Of course you need to have flower combinations that strong reds (both
of the varieties I named are reds) will fit into for that to work.
