Re: Collecting Euphorbia seeds

Karen,

Use bags made from old nylon pantyhose. Cut the legs to the
appropriate length and tie off one end with a rubber band and then
insert spent flower cluster that is making seeds and attach to the
stem with a twist tie...not exactly decorative, but permits air
circulation so the plant doesn't rot and water passed right through.
These instructions always make me think of one of Gene Bush's
articles - which one was it, Gene? - where he tells about the
problems a single guy has getting sufficient panty hose for the
job:-) Cracked me up.

If you want them to re-seed, you need to leave the flower heads on
until they start to die back on their own. The bracts remain quite
decorative into mid-summer in my garden.

And, I'll repeat my warning about dermatitis from euphorbs...I get it
very badly, so if you have sensitive skin, be sure to wear gloves
when handling them. I use those disposable plastic surgical type
gloves when I need to do fiddly work that requires that your fingers
can feel what they are doing.
