Don't be so sure about the overwintering.  I have a couple N. sylvestris plants
that I planted against the south foundation of the house which have now
overwintered twice.  This species makes a thick, deep taproot which, in your
warmer Zone, should overwinter successfully covered by 3-4" of shredded leaves.

As for growing this species, aphids are quick to find and overwhelm it so have
the aphid spray of your choice handy at all times.
