I've done the same thing in the past: insecticidal soap. Last year's
aphids were so bad that I ended up with a lot of stunted/malformed growth.
This year I hit the plants as soon as I saw those pests -- and I had both
black and green aphids. Now, I don't see any and I have a lot of ladybugs,
too. Seems that the nonpoisonous method keeps things in balance.
By the way, I haven't seen many of the bright red ladybugs. Just the
orange ones. What's the difference? Anyone seen praying mantises yet?
