Hi, Kathy and Linda.
I've just rejoined Perennials after an absence of a couple of years. Have
been lurking a little to get the lay of the land, but you've stumbled into
one of my favorite subjects - Salvia. I'm in East Tennessee, Z6b-7a, and
my S. greggii's thrive here. They don't always come true from seed, so
trading seed from named cv's is chancy, but whatever you end up with you'll
love it. Most of mine have two bursts of bloom, spring and fall, when days
are warm and nights are cool. Those with S. microphylla in their parentage
tend to bloom all summer. I usually cut my greggii's back after the first
flush has ended. They come readily from cuttings so I also overwinter
rooted cuttings of my favorites in case we have an unusually cold winter.
I'd be interested in sources for Salvias. Have ordered from: Plant
Delights, H&H, Sandy Mush, and the now defunct Southern Perennials and
Herbs. Anyone know of other sources? Does Yucca Do do mailorder any more?
Thanks,
Gerry
