A few posts ago there was some mention of dwarf hostas. I bought
several last fall thanks to recommendations on the list, and I planted them
in some of those wonderful new containers that look like terra cotta but are
lightweight foam of some kind that can be left outside all year without
damage.
This spring it is clear that they made it through our Midwestern
winter (one that included a spell of near zero with no snow cover early in
December) and are doing great. I plan to add some annual new guinea
impatiens and coleus to the containers to brighten up an area underneath a
Japanese tree lilac when it isn't feasible to dig or build a raised bed due
to roots. The dwarf hostas make a nice addition and help beautify a problem
area.
