Wisteria redux

Correct me if I'm wrong, have been following the non-blooming wisteria
thread sort of haphazardly.
Once the wisteria is the form one wishes, we should trim the new shoots
back to 3-4 buds, stress the plant trunk and dig at the roots.
My wisteria, from a trustworthy local nursery, has been up 4 years,
growing like the devil in full sun. It makes a leafy screen on the
trellis but not a bloom in sight.
I also forgot how to tell if the wisteria is Chinese or Japanese,
something about how the plant grows right?
I have not a clue about mine.
I also bought some wisteria cuttings on ebay that have sprouted and I am
a patient gardener, but I don't think I have 10 years patience waiting
for them to bloom.
Maybe I;ll plant a purple clematis with it.
