Karen, I can't think of any reason why you shouldn't till when its dry
except that it would be a lot more difficult & the tiller would buck. It is
much easier to till soil that is crumbly moist. I don't know if it would
hurt soil tilth the way tilling wet soil does. Maybe someone else on the
list knows the definitive answer.

why?
Thanks to everyone for the answers as to when it's too wet to till.
Looks like it will be containers this year. If I can get ahold of some
amendments, may try Marge's suggestion to get started for next year.
