Where is the location of the problem Centaurea montana? This is an old
garden plant here and I have never seen it become a pest. It is usually
valued for it's ability to bloom in half shade. I think it has very few
flowers for the foliage it produces. I guess I don't like Centaureas very
much, any species. They seem to all be hardy. Often the short season of
zones 4 and either side of us keeps plants from becoming weedy when they are
pests elsewhere. I have a Centaurea bella which has some pretty grey foliage
and about three flowers or less each year.
