Oh, Colin, what a wonderful son you have! May is the perfect time to visit
Giverny.
The wisteria will be in bloom over the Japanese bridge and, as lovely as the
paintings are, there is nothing like seeing it in person! And, oh the iris,
peonies, delphiniums -- such bliss! I was there in May two years ago. (You
might recall that I just missed seeing you at the Chelsea Flower Show when I
arrived at your club's booth just after you left on an errand, but I did get
to see your magnificent Himalayan blue poppies.)
Anyway, I do have some advice. There are so many awesome photo opportunities
at Giverny that it is easy to spend the entire time there looking through the
lens trying to capture everything on film. (Rather pointless, really, as
Monet already captured it so eloquently on canvass.) Fortunately, at some
point I realized that I was so busy taking pictures that I was not fully
experiencing being there. I put the camera away and just enjoyed the garden.
I am so glad I did! If you stand back and squint enough to blur the colors,
you will get an impressionist-like image and you can almost see the
paintings. Enjoy! --Janis
