In a one gallon pot I go 2 inches deep, since your medium is a peat based one
-- deeper should not be a problem. They like a heavy sand-clay-loam soil.
When grown in a pot a little deeper works out good if you are going to over
winter the plants in the pots and you do fall clean up of the dry stems, you
can end up pulling out the rhizomes with the dry stems, they do not keep any
roots over the winter but grow new roots in the spring.
