oh the joys of Latin - I took Latin in college as my language
requirement! Only because I wouldn't be graded on oral fluency!

If he read lots of "Silver" or Church Latin - it is a possible
pronunciation. And Silene looks like a Greek root which throws a
monkey wrench in the works!
