Thistle!! Chris, when you said thistle will wilt and die - all the way? My neighbors were virtually cultivating the darned stuff which is #1 on the state's banned plants list. I offered to help but their reply was, "We're Vegans; we don't kill plants." I had to send a letter to their landlord with a copy of the Extension's bulletin about it. The law states that if they don't do something about the thistle, the township has to step in - and if the twp doesn't, they're in trouble. "Any person owning or having charge over land, highway, or railroad right-of-way who allows detrimental plants to grow and mature is guilty of a Class C infraction (IC 15-16-8-12). A township trustee that fails to perform their duties required by this chapter is also guilty of a Class C infraction. A Class C infraction can have a maximum fine of $500, each day constituting a separate offense." They had a team over to clean it up that weekend, but slowly it's coming back, popping up in my nursery area. I just keep plucking, but if it gets really bad again, I won't hesitate to threaten again. Kitty -----Original Message----- From: owner-perennials@hort.net [o*@hort.net] On Behalf Of Christopher P. Some plants like thistle will brown and die immediately, but others (like established bishop's gout) won't do anything. It seems like new growth is the most vulnerable, so I've found that cutting it back and then attacking the resulting shoots gives me the most success. You have to keep at it with a few applications, but I've never been disciplined enough. This is the one I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VVMTM14/ I just put it in a spray bottle and mist the plants.
