Perhaps your clients all have long necks, as the flowers on some will
probably be way above most people:)

My understanding and that of many growers (not to mention long
established nurseries) is that cultivated Clematis are divided into
three pruning groups:
Gp One: Montanas, evergreen species, alpina and macropetalas.
Gp Two: Early large-flowered hybrids, double, semi-double and mid-season
large-flowered hybrids.
Gp Three: Jackmani types, late-flowering large-flowered cultivars,
viticellas and taxensis group.
Group One: plants flower on wood produced the previous season. Flowering
early in the season.
Group Two: plants as above. Flowering early and late in the season.
Group Three: plants flower on new wood produced in the current season.
Flowering mid-late in the season.
