I have a grass and wild flower mix called 'Fleur d'Lawn' planted in my
parking strip. This is the 5th year and it has been successful where
nothing else has. The mix contains a perennial rye grass that tops out at
6", English daisies in red, white and pink, strawberry clover, creeping
yarrow and the first year it had 2 annual fillers - Baby Blue Eyes and Sweet
Allysum. The Daisies began blooming in March and are still going strong.
They are a source of pleasure for everyone walking down the sidewalk. The
hard part is mowing about once a month. It is hard to mow only when there
is nothing in bloom because that is usually only in the winter. The Daisies
bloom early and late with the Yarrow and Clover blooming inbetween. The
grass stays a nice dark green thanks to the nitrogen fixing ability of the
clover. It is only necessary to irrigate the area once a month during the
dry season.
