Broom eradication
I know that yellow broom is a problem here in the Sierra foothills. The
Calif. Native Plant Society has had work parties to eliminate it beside
a nearby highway. But before I knew about that, my husband saw a broom
plant with red blossoms, which he liked. (I think it may have been
called Burkwoodii var.) I wasn't terribly taken with it, but we bought
it, and it has been growing well enough, with a few blossoms. I like to
encourage my husband's newfound interest in gardening, especially since
he does much of the digging! But is the red variety as likely to spread
as the yellow?
