I haven't grown clematis with morning glory, just roses. I would imagine that
the morning glories, being somewhat vigorous in their growth habit, may crowd
out the clematis.
Clematis look so strange and fragile. Mine always seem to look like they're
dead and then they bloom away. Maybe I have the late type. I have Mme Julie
Correvon and Etoile Violette. Mme Julie is in bloom now. It is at the top if
the support of the carport, facing west and intertwined with a climbing Cecile
Brunner rose and a Zepherine Drouhin rose. Both of the roses are 5 years old
and 15' tall. All that I see of the clematis until the blooms are small, fine
leaves. They are sticky and twiggy under the canopy of the roses. Perhaps
the morning glories would cover up the twiggyness with green leaves.
It sounds like a wonderful combination. I'm not sure that the laid back
clematis will successfully fight for their spot in the sun. If they do, Let
me know! I'll do the same!.
