Re: Stachys lanata/Lambs Ear

I have a patch that seeded into the gravel drive just at the base of a
retaining wall - facing north...pretty much shade. It does semi-well. Not
as nicely as where it gets more sun, but it *will* insist on seeding there,
so I just pull out what gets really ratty. This is not a plant for deep
shade - it just sort of flattens out and is really stringy, but is
acceptable in light to medium or dappled shade and super in full sun.

I find in my hot, humid summers that I need to go around about July and
clean out the clumps - pull the dead foliage and cut it back sharply. It
then leafs out and does fine for the rest of the season. Sure can collect
a lot of yucky (botanical term) stuff in a couple of months of humidity,
tho'. But, I wouldn't be without it.
