Everybody has to start somewhere, and we've all done thstunts just as
silly to evolve to where we are now.
Twenty years ago, I lived in Southern Idaho for 2.5 years, and after
viewing miles of sagebrush from the windows, I whined to my grandmother
to bring plants with her when she came to visit from Washington (my home
state). How stupid of me to not know that the gorgeous greenery of
acid, cool, temperate Washington wouldn't grow in the alkaline gravel
that I lived in.
And how stupid of me to not notice the family floppy-eared goat (our
source of entertainment, since rural Idaho offers none) dutifully
following me, eating everything as I planted it in the hot sun.
And how silly of me to not think ahead when I turned that sprinkler on
the 'garden' because it was 82 degrees. I went off to my graveyard
shift job, and upon returning at 6:30 am, everything was encased in inch
thick ice, as wild temperature flucuations are the norm in that area.
Gawd, I'm glad to be home.
And by the way....I never got a damn thing to grow in Idaho.
Probably a major reason I look down my nose at the area.
