Carol,

When I overwinter plants in that fashion, I only water about once a month
or whenever the soil seems excessively dry.  When the plant begins to put
up new shoots, I then remove some or most of the soil and replace it with
fresh soil and slow-release fertilizer.  Move it to a warmer, sunnier
location if you can't move it outside and increase the watering.

There are several tender perennials that I grow this way.
