An annual plea....

Every year I toss out two questions, in hopes that there might be someone
who has the solution to at least one of them. The first concerns Deer
Flies. As if the Deer aren't bad enough, there's these bonafide Satan Bugs
to contend with in the Summer. Some Southerners may call them Horse Flies,
but most Northerners will know exactly what I'm talking about. No
repellent seems to work, and if bitten, I swell up like a balloon. So much
for Summer fun. Someone told me that Noxema makes a repellent, available
only in Canada, that's effective against them, but I've yet to find it.
My other curse is Equisetum, otherwise known as Horsetail Grass, Horseshave
Grass, and/or That Evil Weed That NOTHING Can Kill. I've tried everything,
including double doses of RoundUp. This year I'm going to cover a useless
(but extremely fertile, thanks to the loads of compost I've dumped in it)
bed in black plastic and roast the thing all Summer long. Does anyone have
any other suggestions to battle this noxious pest? I'll try anything, up
to, but not necessarily including, pagan ritual.
