No clue on the deer flies - we have a few, but not enough to be a bother,
but looked in my files of back posts from various lists and appears that
repeated application of Round-UP to *bruised* foliage or covering it with
black plastic for a year are the only methods others have found to be
successful. This is considered one of the horrible weeds when it gets
going where you don't want it. Good luck!
