If you're not particular about tender perennials, look no further than
Logee's Greenhouse. They have a host of flowers that bloom only in the
evenings and emit the strong fragrances. I am particularly fond of
brugmansia, moonflowers, jasmine, acidanthera (abyssinian gladiolus), phlox
maculata, and a few others. Really anything that shows up well in the
moonlight and/or gives a fragrance would do well.
Of course you could always have a nice theme, like going for a planting of
passion flower vines. You could have blooms that remind you of your SO's
significant parts, like balloon flowers before they burst open, or a
jack-in-the-pulpit for what jack has under the pulpit. I think you're
getting my drift...
Either way, have fun. Go with plants that have your names. How about
favorite colors? Why not buy plants after significant events for the both
of you so that you'll be continuously reminded? Really any way you can be
emotionally tied to a plant makes it romantic.
