I've just bought this plant without knowing anything about it. I bought it
because it's got purple leaves and I thought "Great, a purple leaved
perennial to go in my purple/orange with a bit of yellow in border". It
was only when I got home that I read the catalogue description which is:
"A purple leaved loosestrife, offsetting pale yellow flowers far more
effectiviely than can the green-leaved type plant. Makes a colony.
June-Sept. 0.7m."
It's the "makes a colony" part that bothers me. I don't really know what
this means but it sounds ominous. (I don't really know what clump forming
means in describing other plants either, but I do know that this is
supposed to be a desirable characteristic.) Does anybody else have any
idea of what "makes a colony" means, is it likely to take over my border.
