Hi all.
Just how deep do most perennial roots go? I'm planning on putting in a new
raised bed, but want to make sure it has ample room for the roots to go as
deep as necessary. The bed currently has a some lime in the bottom and some
2 inch rock directly under it. If I have to, I will dig it out to make sure
the perennials will grow correctly.
Any suggestions on perennials in my zone for such a bed? It is on the West
side of my house with a 7 foot wall as it's East side (my carport). I plan
on at least putting in one climatis. I'm thinking about some peonies, also.
I have a Lamb's Ear that I can divide as well. The bed will be about 14
inches wide by 24 feet long. Would some of Lorraine's Romantic Garden
perennials work in this setting? They need to be able to handle the hot
afternoon sun. Her garden sounds wonderful (with exception to the larger
shrubs...no room in this garden). Although, I have 7 lilacs begging to be
transplanted.
Thanks,
