If the plant was planted deep it will take some time for it to come up the
first year.
As long as the root was nice and firm and had no rotted sections on it when
you planted last fall-they should be alive, assuming you did not plant it two
shallow and the crown was exposed to the winter elements the first year.
Once this plant is established it is a very hard plant to kill. The trick is
getting it going.
