Hey all you bulb gardners out there:
For longer than I care to remember, I have been
growing bulbs..among them daffodils. Up until now, I
have ALWAYS waited until the foliage was completely
yellow and nearly rotting before I got rid of it.
Last year I read somewhere that you only have to wait
until it is lying on the ground to cut it back. I
wondered if any of you have ever cut back the foliage
this early. The way I have been doing it is
frustrating because some years it is late in June
before it is rotted enough to pull out easily. By
then it's too late to plant anything else so the beds
and borders where I have bulbs remain bare the rest of
the summer. Some of my Daffs are in a semi-reclining
position at the moment and I was thinking that if they
would hurry up and finish reclining, I could put in
some annuals. What do you think? When do the rest of
you trim back your daffs. The tulips (bless their
hearts) are quick to make an exit and are no problem
but the daffs are a real pain.
