Yup, you will, Gerry. Just dug mine and 'Margarita' had not only a
huge main tuber but a lot of smaller, longer, narrower tubers
underneath the main one...this was a tuber I'd kept over from last
year. Interestingly enough, 'Blackie' made only smaller long, narrow
tubers and they are beige, like a regular potato, not red. Of
course, it got a haircut three times this summer from bambi, so that
may be why it did not have enough energy to make a large tuber.
Last winter, managed to keep mine alive in my cool (40F) greenhouse
to plant out this year. Have not had much luck in keeping rooted
cuttings alive in there, but the tubers seem to do fine.
Now, what I'm wondering is whether the smaller tubers would grow into
plants if detached from the mother tuber...anybody know? Do they act
like regular potatoes in that way or like Dahlias, who won't sprout
unless they have a section of stem attached?
