If you do get waylaid in Brazil-you can still send us e-mails, the libraries should have computers and you can open an e-mail account using one of the many free services out there. My parents last year went to south America and they sent E-mail from Argentina and Brazil. Not all of them made it to me-but I believe this was do to them using the wrong E-mail address.
Have a good trip-it sounds very interesting as long as the prep work does not wear you out before you leave?
They have a lot of very interesting plants in south America-but in the gardens you will find the same plants that we have here in the states.
