Re: seed import permits

Hello Marge,
I was sending seeds as one individual to another. Each was in paper
towels, then in baggies and clearly labeled. Was trying to fudge on the
system, I will admit. Got caught, but learned that there are exceptions to
the new regs for permits and certificates. Now I can not find out the
details on those exceptions. New Zealand and Australia do mean business and
take their jobs seriously. They also have the staff to do the job. Japan is
probably the most strict.... just don't do it.
I have been a member of NARGS for some years now and I am not really a
rock gardener. Once in a while I order seeds, must most of the time I trade
with the members through my web site. Their quarterly publication is great,
the membership sues very reasonable. Great meetings to attend. Not all is
strictly rock gardening as you may think of the subject. Had two articles I
wrote appear in the Quarterly this year, so there is a place for shade
gardeners as well.
