Gene: I bet the pictures will be wonderful - You should talk with your photo
man and see if there is a way to put the slides on CD, these photos sound
like they would be a great addition to your website. So many sites are
dedicated to just the growing season, not so much for when the frost
comes.......so much beauty to be seen in the garden when there is ice
dangling (as you know, I don't get to see this in my garden here in SE
Texas).
>>>>The ornamental kale<<<
This year I purchased a new variety (new to me) of ornamental Kale, 'Redbor'.
This is a really beautiful Kale, I saw it last year planted in the display
beds of one of my favorite nurseries. Large, deep red ruffled leaves....I
planted these out with my Foxgloves (which will bloom in the spring and die
late May, early June). Unfortunately, we have had an excessive amount of
rain lately - almost 2 full weeks without seeing any sunshine. Then we had a
nice break for 4 days and now the rain is back. Half of what I planted
appears to have died of crown rot. I will have to see about getting more of
these sometime this month - they look great planted out with the Red Swiss
Chard and Blue Lobelia.
I found a picture of the Kale 'Redbor' on the net, take a look--
