I have not grown Rumex from seed but have had the same experience with fall
seedlings of Crambe cordifolia. I elected to put them indoors with all the
other pots and bulbs in good light but very cool temps. They survived at
nearly the same size in the spring and are now large mature plants in the
garden. We are very cold here in winter yet some fall germinated seedlings
will survive outdoors. If I had just one and I valued it, I would take it
into a cool sunny indoor location.
