One of my favorite native plants is CAULOPHYLLUM thalictroides - blue
cohosh.
It is a stately wood land plant with glaucus blue green stems and compound
leaves.
The flowers are nothing to speak of -being small and green with yellow
anthers, but it does have nice dark blue berries in late summer through
winter.
Blue cohosh grows to about 20-26 inches tall, and is very long lived, some
plants I have are maybe fifty years old.
It is not showy in a standard sense but is a great plant for its simple form
and gracefulness. It grows up right with long naked stems and thus can be
planted under with small plants.
