Chris,
I have two favorites that were just added to my garden this season.
Cimicifuga racemosa (Black Cohosh) has dark green, deeply divided
fern-like leaves on an upright plant that grows 5-7 ft tall and a
spread of about 2-3 ft. The flowers are white in a gracefully curved
raceme atop the plant. I haven't seen any mention of fragrance in
any of my perennial books, but mine was wonderfully fragrant in the
evening. They prefer cool, moist, humusy soil in partial to full
shade.
Echinacea paradoxa (Yellow Coneflower) is similar to E. purpurea
in habit, but somewhat more slender. Mine grew to about 30 inches
and produced a typical coneflower with intense lemon yellow, reflexed
petals about 3 inches across. It likes full to part sun.
Could you describe the Heuchera you mentioned in your note? I like
Heuchera a lot, but I'm not familiar with that one.
Thanks,
John
