Thanks Connie. According to my Roseraie at Bayfields catalog (get one if
you want roses!), New Dawn is in the category of "Roses with long canes"
(covers climbers, pillars, ramblers and ground covers). It says
Sport of Dr. W.Van Fleet 1930 10X8 G,R,C
Same bloom and foliage as the Doctor. Won't climb quite as high.
One of ithe first recurrent climbers, making it more famous than
its parent. If room and purse allow, we suggest a Van Fleet
flanked by two New Dawns. The impressive Van Fleeet early summer
display is followed by a happy reminder for two months. A bit
tender in Maine, so put it on a S or E wall.
I plan on ordering from these folks next year, but there are so many
roses mentioned that I want even more badly. The catalog is small print
listings of their roses and is 25 pages, if that gives an idea of how
many they have! Prices are about $12 each and its a little nursery in
Maine (zone 5B where they are). The web site is

I have no affiliation, just drool over the catalogs!
