Hi Barbara, Digitalis x mertonenis is a true perennial. It is shorter and
stockier with flowers the color of crushed strawberries. The leaves are
darker green, soft and fuzzy. Mine usually put up several stems over the
course of the summer so the bloom time is long. Digitalis lutea, soft creamy
yellow flowers, is also listed by the American Horticultural Society
Encyclopedia as perennial. Both are 30-36" and do well in full shade in my
garden. They are also pest free.
