Lillian,
One good point to remember about fertilizer for delph is that it is far
better to use calcium nitrate than any other form. Not only does it
help with increasing the ph, but this also helps to prevent
"delphinium blight" (sclerotinia rolfsii). I suggest that everyone would
benefit if they check their soil ph before all mineral fertilizer
applications and add lime if it is below ph 6.5 ...much easier said
than done maybe. We have naturally acid soils (ph 4.5 to 5.5) in NZ
and it is a constant delight to be able to suggest such an easy
remedy for so many problems that have resulted because of a low
ph. Gardens and gardeners respond wonderfully!
