Cold Frame Question

I am not sure if this is a Perennials question, but this year for the first
year we have a cold frame - a somewhat makeshift arrangement that my husband
made from some leftover lumber.  I know it isn't rocket science, but I can't
seem to find much detail about using cold frames.  For instance, I know I
have to raise the windows when it is sunny so it doesn't heat up too much.
But what about watering?  I put my hoses away for the winter, but with glass
over the cold frame, it won't get rain, and what do people usually do?

Does anyone know of good internet sites about using coldframes?  Or maybe
there is a mailing list specifically for that?
