Hi Sophie and all,
In response to your situation and question: "In your collective experience
are there plants ( I am afraid to
use the "a" word) which would hide the decaying tulip foliage, look OK
through the summer and have shallow enough roots not to interfere with the
bulbs?"
I have for some time now thought(as I have no more room to plant tulips or
daffodils this remains untested!) that the perfect companion plant for
tulips would be Nepeta 'Six Hills Giant'. It begins serious growth just as
the tulips are finishing. It is vigorous enough to 'hide' the dying tulip
foliage and it thrives on less water which also should be good for the
tulips. What do other's think of this idea? Has anyone tried it?
Sincerely,
Louis Mensing
