In answer to Louise's question about the word "winterize", I had hoped to
find a history of first usage but checked two dictionaries to no avail.
Louise, you may know it has become customary among users of American
English to take a noun, such as winter, add -ize and begin using this new
word as a verb. Experts on proper usage are divided on the legitimacy of
the practice but it is quite acceptable in common parlance. The word
"winterize" is indeed in the dictionary but with no comment on its
propriety .
