Re: true lily bulb appearance, arum and oxalis was: Advise needed

Connie,

You're most welcome.

There's quite a difference in the appearance of a true lily bulb and one of
the Amaryllis. True lilies have segmented bulbs...generally pointed
segments that you can peel off (can actually propagate lilies with these).
Amaryllis family has a big, solid bulb covered with a brown papery skin,
like a tulip. True lilies don't have this papery skin. Bulb color on them
is generally whitish or grayish or sometimes yellowish.

Well, Arum italicum are pretty hardy types. Think I'd go ahead and plant
these guys out. You might get some foliage damage if it gets below
freezing right away, but the roots will still be OK. Mine remain fine all
winter, no matter what happens. If it gets really lousy, the foliage may
go down, but new takes its place.

Don't know much about Oxalis - except the weed - so can't really advise on
this one. Somebody out there must know...come on, pitch in..
