Donna,
If that florist "foam" is the product, Oasis, it is useful for rooting
cuttings. I have been hearing about this for years. Last week, visiting a
greenhouse full of Christmas plants, I saw cuttings of spring plants (yes
spring plants) being started in wedges of Oasis.
When roots appear outside the foam, the small wedge is planted in potting
soil and grown on. I have no precise rules for the process but it does not
seem difficult to me and what can you lose? You can multiply overwintering
fuchsias and the like.
In our zone 4 area, it is seldom successful to root cuttings in November and
December. The entire process is so much easier in February and later. All
cuttings seem to be helped by bottom heat. This is a huge subject.
