RE: perennials DIGEST V3 #1109

Kris, the Japanese Anemones must be hardy in 5a as well as 5b because they
are offered in the Milaeger's catalogue and they are up in Racine Wisconsin.
I think the trick is to get them established enough. Sometimes you lose one
if it's too small and too newly planted before an especially cold winter. I
have a number of them that I have had for many years and a couple of new
ones I'm crossing my fingers on for this winter. I think I have Prince
Henry, September Charm, Honorine Jobert, Pamina, and Whirlwind. Also, I have
a friend in Urbana who has one (vitifolia robustissima?) that takes up half
the side of a house.

Susan and David in Urbana, Illinois, zone 5b
